Cláudia Pascoal is a Biologist with the MSc in Environmnental Sciences, the PhD in Freshwater Ecology and the Habilitation in Evolution, Biodiversity and Ecology. She is Associate Professor at the Department of Biology in the University of Minho, Portugal. She is the executive director of the Institute of Science and Innovation for Bio-sustainability (IB-S, www.ib-s.uminho.pt, since 2021) and the director of the Center for Molecular and Environmental Biology (CBMA, https://cbma.uminho.pt, since 2022). She is member of the board of directors of the Associate laboratory ARNET (Aquatic Research Network), since 2023, and representative of UMinho, member of the scientific committee and member of the Shareholders' General Meeting of the WATER-CORE Colab, a collaborative association between academia and private companies, certified by FCT, in 2022. She is member of the General Council of the University of Minho (elected in 2021). She was the former Director of the MSc in Biodiversity, Ecology and Global Change, and the former director of the BSc in Applied Biology at the University of Minho. Her research interests focus on assessing, predicting and mitigating the impacts of global change on biodiversity and the functioning of aquatic ecosystems. Over the past 6 years, she has coordinated or participated in 7 national and 4 international research projects, and established several partnerships with private companies and environmental agencies. She has raised more than 2 M Euros as PI or co-PI in competitive funding (FCT, EU) in research projects. Recently, she was the leading PI of the STREAMECO: Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning under Climate Change: from the gene to the stream (http://streameco.org), the co-PI of the EMERGEMIX: Impacts of mixtures of emerging contaminants in aquatic ecosystems across multi-levels of biological organization, and the PI at the CBMA-UMinho of the AQUAFIRE: Integrated Assessment of Wildfires: impacts to aquatic ecosystems and human health. She has supervised 10 Post-doc researchers (2009-2023), 12 PhD students (9 concluded); 25 MSc students (23 concluded); 31 BSc students (all concluded). She published 117 articles (>30 over the last 5 years) in journals indexed to Scopus plus 10 book chapters. She presented more than 200 communications at national and international congresses (17 as invited speaker). She is the Editor in Chief of the journal Hydrobiology and Associate Editor of the journals Limnetica and Frontiers in Environmental Science. She is member of the Direction board of the Iberian Limnological Association (https://www.limnetica.com/en). She has been member of evaluation panels for individual grants and projects for several funding agencies (FCT, ANR, DFG, NOW & KNAW, GACR, ANPCyT & FONCyT, La Caixa Foundation). She is member of the evaluation committee for the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES). She has participated in several science dissemination activities for enhancing scientific literacy among young people and citizens in general, e.g., leading and supervising activities for environmental monitoring and education at the Landscape Laboratory (www.labpaisagem.pt), giving talks at the GreenFest (www.greenfest.pt), organizing field and lab activities during the University Open Days and in the European Researcher Nights. She has participated and/or organized panels in the Economic forum at the regional level (2022 Braga; 2023 Guimarães) She was one of the honorees in the virtual exhibition Women in Science in permanent exhibition at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento, in Lisboa.
