Vera Augusta Moreira Rodrigues

Vera Rodrigues successfully concluded her PhD in Fluid Mechanics in 2015 from Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France. The researcher's post-doctoral experience started in September 2016 when she rejoined the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM/UA). Since then, she has been actively involved in several research projects: 1 Horizon Europe, 5 H2020 projects, 1 Urban Innovative Action, and 9 research projects funded by national funds. She is the UA coordinator of the OptWire project, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). She has been awarded a grant from the Bilateral Research Fund of the Portuguese Association of Researchers and Students in the United Kingdom to run the Citizen project as a Principal Investigator (PI). During her post-doctoral experience, she had the opportunity to contribute to the design and writing of several research projects submitted to international programs, particularly 2 submissions to the H2020 programs LC-CLA-11-2020 (Nature-Based Cities) and LC-GD-9-1-2020 (AIRTILUS) and 3 submissions to the Horizon Europe programs HORIZON-CL6-2022-GOVERNANCE-01-08 (ROBUST), HORIZON-CL5-2023-D5-01-18 (ATMOS) and HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ACCESS-02 (WINAIR). She has submitted as PI the SwiftAIR (2024), Rebuild (2022), S-Build (2021), and MAP (2020) projects to the call funded by the FCT. Since 2016, and for 4 years, she has been a full member of the ClairCity project consortium. She has actively participated in the international meetings of the project and attended the monthly meetings of the Management Group. She was also responsible for the organization of the ClairCity annual meeting and conference held in Aveiro (2019). Together with other researchers of UA, she is in tight collaboration with the Aveiro Region and its municipalities. She was also a keynote speaker of the final ClairCity webinar and she participated in the final evaluation meeting of the project by the European Commission. She was also a keynote speaker at the 2020 EU Green Week's session engaging young people as active citizens and citizen scientists. Additionally, in 2019, the researcher was an invited speaker in the webinar series hosted by Trinity College Dublin. She is the co-chair of the WG4 (microscale assessment) and she is also a member of the WG6 (sensors and data fusion) of the Forum for Air Quality Modeling in Europe (FAIRMODE), chaired by the Joint Research Center to support the European Commission in matters of the Air Quality Directive. In addition, she is currently a topic Editor of the Sustainability Journal and she is acting as the Editor of their Special Issue "Benefits of Green Infrastructures on Air Quality in Urban Spaces". She was a member of the Scientific Committee of the 21st International Conference on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes. In 2017, she was teaching Urban Metabolism classes at UA, ensuring 30% of the schedule. In 2021, she was teaching Thermal Machines and Heat Transfer at Águeda School of Technology and Management (ESTGA/UA), ensuring 100% of the schedule. In 2023/2024 she taught Air Quality Management (20%), Climate Change (40%), and Environmental Systems II (50%) at UA. She co-supervised a PhD thesis (concluded in 2022), 5 MSc theses, and 2 BSc students. She is currently supervising 3 PhD students (1 as the main supervisor) and 2 MSc students. Additionally, she was an examiner of 4 MSc theses focusing on CFD modelling applications. Since 2017, she has been the coordinator of the research team Urban Environment part of the research group on Emissions, Modelling and Climate Change (GEMAC). The main objective of this research group is to contribute to science on topics related to the atmospheric boundary layer at the microscale. In 2023, she received a six-year contract as an Auxiliary Researcher through the highly competitive Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC) - 6th Edition.
