Vera Rodrigues successfully concluded the MSc degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Aveiro (UA) in 2009. She received her PhD in Fluid Mechanics in 2015 from Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France. During the development of her PhD studies, the researcher had the chance to potentiate a set of multidisciplinary skills in areas such as fluid mechanics, hig-resolution numerical methods, Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling, atmospheric sciences and meteorology. The researcher experience started in February 2010, when she joined the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM/UA) as a researcher fellow. In December 2010, she formally enrolled in a PhD on Fluid Mechanics in the CNRS UMR 6598 unit of Ecole Centrale de Nantes. This PhD experience is an important evidence of transnational mobility in the academic sector. The researcher post-doctoral experience started in September 2016 when she rejoined CESAM/UA as a post-doctoral fellow. Since then, she was actively involved in 6 national research projects. During her post-doctoral experience, she had the opportunity to contribute in the design and writing of several research projects submitted to international programs: a COST Action, a PESSOA program and an Urban Innovative Action. In addition, she has collaborated in the writing of 3 projects (GENESIS, Ashmob, Inflowence), which have been selected for funding under the Portuguese P2020 program, and of which she is currently part of the research team. More recently, she has submitted as Principal Investigator (PI) the CityzenAir project (MIT-EXPL/CS/0035/2019) to the call for exploratory proposals of the MIT Portugal Program; as co-PI the B5G-TurbOptics project (CMU/TIC/0017/2019) to the call for exploratory proposals of the CMU Portugal; and she has also been part of the UA research team involved in the submission of a proposal to the H2020 program call LC-CLA-11-2020. Since 2016, she is contributing for the EU’s H2020 ClairCity project, acting as the UA internal technical and scientific manager. For that reason, she was one of the researchers responsible for the organization of the ClairCity annual meeting and conference held in Aveiro, in 2019. Together with the researchers of UA, she is in tight collaboration with the Aveiro Region and its municipalities, since they are simultaneously a partner and a case study of the ClairCity project. From the collaboration between the Region and UA, a working group was created, of which I am a member, aiming to build together an effective strategy to take advantage of the last H2020 opportunities and the upcoming Horizon Europe. She is also part of the Working Group Microscale Modelling of the FAIRMODE – Forum for Air Quality Modeling in Europe, launched by the Joint Research Center to support the European Commission in matters of the Air Quality Directive. In 2019, the researcher was an invited speaker in the webinar series hosted by the Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and Cornell University. Because of that, and after a research stay in TCD, she has initiated a collaboration with researchers from TCD and from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, aiming to reproduce the CODASC experiments using OpenFOAM model and to revisit CFD simulation best practices. The researcher is also involved in pedagogic activities, as well as in outreach activities for graduate and elementary schools (e.g. during 2019, she was an invited speaker in workshops of 10 distinct schools). She was teaching Urban Metabolism classes at UA, ensuring 30% of the total schedule and obtaining a final classification of 8.06 out of 9. Furthermore, she co-supervised an ERASMUS internship at Von Karman Institute, an ERASMUS internship at UA, and an MSc thesis at UA. She is currently involved in an ongoing PhD thesis, and co-supervising a PhD student, which is preparing his PhD application to the FCT call. Additionally, in 2018, she was examiner of an MSc thesis about computational tools.

2020/03/06 - 2020/03/06 Participation as invited speaker in the "Conversa com o Cientista" organized by "Escola Ciência Viva" together with the municipality of Aveiro. The event was held on the "Centro Municipal de Interpretação Ambiental" in Aveiro, with a talk about air pollution and its health-related impacts under the framework of the ClairCity project. The talk has reached a total of 30 pupils with ages from 8 to 10 years old.

2020/02/27 - 2020/02/28 Participation as invited speaker in the "II Jornadas da Saúde" of the high school EB 2,3 da Gafanha da Encarnação, with a talk intitled “A Saúde e o Ar que Respiramos” about air pollution and its health-related impacts. This activity was reported under the framework of the ClairCity project. I have made 5 different sessions to 5 classes of around 20 students, in a total of 100 pupils with ages from 10 to 15 years old.

2015/06/01 - 2015/09/30 I worked in the framework of the CLICURB project "Urban atmospheric quality, climate change and resilience". In this context, I have improved the CFD model VADIS regarding the heat transfer module. I have also performed several numerical simulations of the flow dynamics, temperature and dispersion fields, in order to assess the thermal and air quality patterns of Porto's urban area.
2010/12/01 - 2013/11/30 I have worked as PhD student under a research contract financed by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and by the Région des Pays de la Loire and under the supervision of Professor Isabelle Calmet. The PhD thesis, "Simulation des grandes échelles de la dispersion des traceurs passifs en site urbain: application à l'évaluation des zones de footprint", has been carried out within the research team Dynamique de l'Atmosphère Urbaine et Côtière (DAUC). 2010/05/01 - 2010/10/31 I have worked in the framework of the European Union's FP7 research project BRIDGE "Sustainable urban planning decision support accounting for urban metabolism" (the collaborative project No. 211345). I have adapted the CFD model VADIS to include the urban green elements (e.g. trees and shrubs) in the computational mesh and to translate their influence in the Navier-Stokes numerical solution for the flow and turbulence.
