I earned my degree in Chemistry from the University of Porto in 2004, and I later completed my MSc in Materials Derived from Renewable Resources at the University of Aveiro (UA) in 2008. In 2008, I was awarded a PhD grant by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), which I completed at UA in December 2012. During this time, I also worked on the EU project SUNPAP, which focused on scaling up nanoparticles in modern papermaking. The following year, I was awarded a post-Doctoral grant by FCT (¿108k) to work at CICECO¿Aveiro Institute of Materials, where I am currently a Researcher under the "Norma Transitória DL 57/2016 - Lei 57/2017" also granted by FCT. After completing my PhD, my main research focus was the synthesis and characterization of inorganic nanostructures, their use in preparing distinct biobased nanocomposite materials, and the study of their applications. Lately, I have begun to perform a responsible transition of my research from using toxic reagents to more sustainable and clean approaches. I have taken considerable expertise in nanoparticle design to develop innovative "green" methods for their preparation and use in specific applications. I recently established this new field of research within my group, which broadened the scope of the host institution under its main research lines. My experience as an independent researcher is also testified by 50 ISI papers in high-level international peer-reviewed journals (83% belong to the first quartile (Q1)). In >45% of these papers, I am the corresponding and/or the 1st author. Furthermore, I published 1 paper proceeding, 1 book, and 3 book chapters. Overall, I have >2300 citations and an h-index =25, which is outstanding considering my career stage and proving the quality and impact of my scientific work. My research field impact can also be attested by 2 special issues as Invited Guest Editor devoted to the biosynthesis of nanostructures (Nanomaterials) and eco-friendly/sustainable approaches (Polysaccharides). In 2016-2018, I experienced some health problems. Still, I managed to maintain an excellent track record without significant gaps during this critical period. I actively disseminate my research findings and have authored over 75 oral and poster presentations at national and international conferences. I have also been a scientific reviewer for high-quality journals, with over 70 verified reviews. In addition, I have supervise/ed 2 PhD, 12 MSc, and 20 BSc students, 1 researcher follow, including those in internationally recognized programs such as ERASMUS and FAME, and I am involved in regular teaching activities (3h/week) in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro. I have also served as the main jury for several BSc and MSc theses and organized scientific workshops and other outreach activities. I have established a strong collaboration network between academia and industry, having even worked as a consultant for the startup DNA TRUSTAG (2016-2018). I participate(d) in 8 EU/National projects, 2 as a Research fellow, 5 as a Researcher, and 1 as Co-PI. In 2021-2023, I had a major input in highly competitive national calls (10% success rate), leading to the approval of 4 projects (near to 250K¿ each). Currently, I am member of EPNOE (The European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence) and FUR4Sustain COST Action, and Editorial Board Member of Nano Materials Science (Elsevier) and Polysaccharides (MDPI). Among other coordination achievements, I was a member of the organizing committee of 6th EPNOE2019 (Oct 2019), 2nd FUR4Sustain Meeting (Mar 2020), FUR4Sustain Training School (Jun 2021), and Best Summer School (Aug 2022). Regarding international mobility, I have participated in two research stays at Grenoble Institute of Technology (France), working in the group of Professor N. Belgacem and at INNOVHUB (Italy), collaborating with Dr. Patrizia Sadocco.
