Dr Aleksey Yaremchenko is a tenured Principal researcher at the CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials, Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering, University of Aveiro. He works in the field of Materials Science & Engineering and Solid State Chemistry & Electrochemistry. ( RESEARCH INTERESTS ) The particular area of his scientific activity is electrochemical technology and (electro)catalytic systems, including solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOEC), reversible solid electrolyte cells (r-SOC), ceramic membranes and membrane reactors based on mixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIEC), energy conversion and storage materials, natural gas and biogas conversion, and gas electrolysis. The research interests of Dr. Yaremchenko include the development of ionic, electronic and mixed conductors and composite materials for energy-conversion technologies; alternative electrode and electrolyte materials; nanostructured (electro)catalysts for electrochemical cells, hydrocarbon (natural gas, biogas) conversion, and environmental applications; surface activation methods; high-temperature steam and carbon dioxide electrolysis; alternative concepts for electrochemical energy storage; solid-state chemistry of oxide materials (phase stability, structure, oxygen nonstoichiometry, defect chemistry, thermochemical and thermomechanical properties, ionic and electronic transport). ( PUBLICATIONS ) Dr Yaremchenko co-authors 193 papers in SCI journals (including 5 reviews), 11 papers in other peer-reviewed scientific journals, 13 papers in conference proceedings, 1 book chapter, and over 180 oral and poster presentations at the international scientific conferences and meetings, including several invited. Citation statistics (as of January 2024): Web of Science Core Collection (h-index 45, >6400 citations) and Scopus (h-index 46, >6800 citations). One review in the Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry (1999, Vol.3, No.6, pp.303-326) has been indicated as one of the 5 most frequently cited papers in this journal, as of 2017. 7 papers have been listed in ScienceDirect Top25 Hottest Articles in 2004-2007. Dr. Yaremchenko is featured in 2021-2023 editions of the World's Top 2% Scientists list based on the composite citation indicator (Stanford University, USA). ( RESEARCH PROJECTS ) Dr. Yaremchenko participated in 30 completed and ongoing R&D projects (including 8 as PI, 3 as co-PI, and 8 funded by international programs). ( EDITORIAL & REVIEWING ACTIVITIES ) Dr. Yaremchenko is the Associate Section Editor of journal Materials (section Energy Materials), and a member of the editorial board of journal Solids. He periodically participates in the evaluation of R&D projects proposals for national funding agencies and in the jury of academic degree defenses, and is a regular reviewer for over 40 SCI journals (ca. 360 article reviews, as of January 2024). ( SUPERVISION AND TEACHING ) The supervision activities of Dr. Yaremchenko include 3 completed and 3 ongoing PhD thesis, 5 completed MSc thesis, 5 post-docs and contracted researchers, 9 postgraduate research grant holders within the R&D projects, 4 student semester projects, and 9 visiting MSc and PhD students. Other relevant experiences include teaching for PhD, MSc and undergraduate students, organization of scientific meetings, and special courses at the tutorial workshops.
