I hold a BSc (2016) and an MSc (2018) in Conservation and Restoration - specialisation in Conservation Science from the Department of Conservation and Restoration (DCR), NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT-NOVA). Within the framework of a financed project, "The Triumph of Bakelite - Contributions for a history of plastics in Portugal" (PTDC/IVC-HFC/5174/2014), my master's dissertation brought novelty to the history of the Portuguese plastic industry through an interdisciplinary approach merging the historical-technical survey of archives and collections and the analytical characterisation of historic plastic objects by in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy. This study resulted in three oral communications in international conferences and participation as a local organising committee member in "The Plastics Heritage Congress: History, Limits and Possibilities" (Lisbon, Portugal). Within this project, the exhibition "Plasticity: A History of Plastics in Portugal", in Leiria Museum (Portugal), was awarded the Dibner Award for Excellence in Museum Exhibits, and with an honourable mention by the Portuguese Association of Museology, APOM (Associação Portuguesa de Museologia) for the conservation and restoration of the exhibited objects. Mainly studying modern and contemporary heritage and pursuing my interest in plastics and synthetic polymers, I became a member of the funded project "PlasCO2 - Green CO2 Technologies for the Cleaning of Plastics in Museums and Heritage Collections" (PTDC/ART-OUT/29692/2017) to study the use of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) - in liquid or supercritical phase - for the preservation of modern and contemporary heritage. I have been awarded a PhD grant (SFRH/BD/147015/2019) to study the suitability of using scCO2 as a solvent and carrier for the consolidation of PUR-ES foams with alkoxysilanes. Mainly studying synthetic polymers, my interests include the application of innovative methodologies for the preservation and conservation of modern and contemporary materials.
