Jesús Manuel Pedreira Dubert's scientific career has been devoted to Oceanography. His main research areas are physical processes on the continental shelf, physical-biological interaction processes on the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula. To address these research topics and to elucidate the main mechanisms involved, he integrates tools from several disciplinary areas, such as numerical modelling in physical oceanography, in combination with in situ observational programmes. In parallel with these interests he is developing research in biogeochemical modelling, and in marine ecology, concerning connectivity processes and larval dispersal in estuarine and coastal ecosystems. This research has been developed in close relation with his teaching career, integrating post-graduate training in research programmes. The research developed also contributes intensively to the basic training, through the inclusion of topics and teaching methods that arise directly from the research topics, in articulation and complementarity with the curricular goals of each discipline. He produced 50 scientific articles in indexed international review which received 1745 citations (1565 without self-citations), with an average of 35 citations per article, resulting in an h-index of 20. He was supervisor or co-supervisor of 6 post-doctoral researchers, 6 PhD students (plus 3 ongoing), 8 MSc students. The most relevant curricular units he coordinates are Remote Sensing and Dynamic Oceanography (1st Cycle), Large Scale Oceanographic Processes (2nd Cycle), Modelling and Observing systems (3rd Cycle). Other relevant subjects that he coordinated or taught in the past were Physical Oceanography, Geophysical Data Analysis (1st Cycle), or Coastal Physical Oceanography and Advanced Dynamic Oceanography (2nd Cycle). General coordinator of 3 national projects, institutional coordinator of 6 national projects, and 3 international projects, team coordinator of 5 national projects, and team member in 11 international, national or cooperation projects. He was member of the coordinating committee of 2 PhD programs in the area of marine sciences offered by the University of Aveiro, one of them international: Do*Mar - Science, Technology and Sea Management, in collaboration with universities in northern Portugal and Galicia, and Environmental and Sea Sciences, in collaboration with the Universities of Porto and Algarve. In the period 2006-2021, he has been Vice-Director of the Associated Laboratory CESAM: Centre for Environment and Marine Studies, University of Aveiro.
