Aleš Popovic is currently a full professor and a senior research scientist in the field of Information Systems in the Department of Business Informatics and Logistics at the School of Business and Economics, University of Ljubljana and an invited full professor at Nova Information Management School, NOVA University of Lisbon. Presently, he is the principal investigator for a 6-year research program “Digitalization as Driving Force for Sustainability of Individuals, Organizations, and Society”. Aleš served as the Vice – Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies at the School of Economics and Business where he was responsible for research strategy and policy for a group of 170 researchers (from early-stage researchers to full professors). Beforehand, he served on the Governance Board and the Research and Doctoral Program Committee (2015 – 2017). Dr. Popovic has a proven record of outstanding research, as evidenced by existing high-quality publications according to Slovenian Research Agency, an independent public funding organization performing tasks relating to the National Research and Development Program. He has published his research in a variety of top-quality academic outlets, such as Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems with Applications, Journal of Business Research, and Government Information Quarterly, among others. His independent research program is inspired by the current global drive for digitalization, and by the growing importance of analytics in business. The objective of his research is to investigate how we can design organizations at multiple levels, spanning job, unit, business process and organizational design to develop appropriate digital and managerial capabilities and set up the work context so as to fully leverage the functionality of technologies in supporting the digitalization process. Dr. Popovic's pedagogical work includes lectures and organization at all levels of programs at the home institution and abroad. He teaches graduate courses at the School of Economics and Business, and a graduate course along with a doctoral seminar at Nova Information Management School. He is regularly contracted to give professional workshops and he is also the head of double degree master program in Information Management between School of Economics and Business and Nova Information Management School. Aleš has supervised two completed Ph.D. dissertations and 21 completed scientific master theses. Dr. Popovic is a member of the Association for Information Systems, the premier gathering for individuals and organizations who lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information technology worldwide. He also serves as an active reviewer for renowned journals and scientific conferences. Aleš is on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Business Research, Industrial Management and Data Systems, and International Journal of Information Management. Among his professional activities dr. Popovic lists recent engagements supporting his established proficiency in the field, such as Chair of Business Intelligence Systems Implementation & Success Track at Americas Conference on Information Systems, Chair of Business Analytics and Knowledge Management Track at European Conference on Information Systems, and Chair of Designing for Digital Mini-track at Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. Dr. Popovic has proved the ability to transfer theoretical insights into practical implications as demonstrated by ample evidence of successfully completed consulting projects. Among others, he has led or participated in projects from leading Slovenian enterprises, such as Telekom Slovenije (the leading mobile service provider), Snaga (waste removal and waste disposal public company), Post of Slovenia, as well as public institutions, such as Surveying and Mapping Authority of Slovenia and Ministry of Labour.
