Zenaida Sobral Mourao.(Female, PhD) is a senior researcher in Sustainable Energy Systems at the Centre for Power and Energy at INESTEC. She has a PhD in Chemistry and an Executive Masters in Sustainable Energy Systems. Before joining INESCTEC she worked as the Head of the Energy Unit at INEGI. Before joining INESC TEC, she worked at INEGI from 2017 to 2022, where she managed a team of junior and senior researchers working on projects in energy and health, including investigating the connections between building energy use and healthy indoor environments; sustainable energy use in industry; and, planning of local energy systems. Prior to that she was an Associate Researcher at the Engineering Department of the University of Cambridge and a Visiting Researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, where she analysed the impacts of the UK Energy System decarbonization pathways on wider natural resource management and use, i.e. water and land, and air quality. She was the coordinator of the EU H2020 Project EMB3Rs (Grant No 847121) which aims to develop an open- sourced tool to aid industries in identifying opportunities and business models for waste heat/cold recovery and utilization. She previously worked also on the development of tools for energy systems planning at the municipal level, co-created with local authorities, to implement Sustainable Action Plans of 9 municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Porto. Since the beginning of 2020 she is also an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto where she teaches courses on Energy and the Environment, Energy Demand Side Management and Planning of Sustainable Energy systems.
