Loleny Tavares holds a PhD degree in Food Science and Technology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and Integrated Masters degrees in Bioengineering - Branch of Biological Engineering from the joint initiative of the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP) and Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto in 2015. In 2016, he was awarded a grant from the CAPES to pursue his PhD at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil. His doctoral research focused on the encapsulation of bioactive compounds from garlic and ginger using different methods and wall materials, starting in 2017 and concluding by the end of 2020. During this period, he was granted a scientific mission for 6 months (August 2018 to January 2019) to collaborate with the LEPABE research unit at FEUP. He gained teaching experience as a trainee professor in the Food Engineering Laboratory and Unit Operations Discipline in Food Engineering II for undergraduate students in the Food Engineering program at UFRGS. He received an Honorable Mention in the "Capes Thesis Award - 2020 Edition" and was recognized for his scholarly achievements by the Students-Graduate Program Agreement (PEC-PG) for his impactful PhD thesis in the field of Food Science and Technology. From July 2021 to March 2023, he held a postdoctoral fellowship under the Incentive System for Research and Technological Development (Copromotion) and joined the Biorefineries, Biobased Materials, and Recycling-G4 group at the Aveiro Institute of Materials (CICECO) at the University of Aveiro (UA), participating in two projects: NANO-SIM 3D and B2-SOLUTIONS. He is currently a Level 2 Doctoral Researcher working on the PRR project, FAIST-agenda. His project, CEEC 6th edition (2023.09409.CEECIND), was awarded funding. In the 1º semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, he taught Principles and Applications of Materials to undergraduate students in the Product Design and Technology (2 hours/week) and Technology and Production Systems (2 h/w) courses at UA. Currently, he was a professor of the Professional Technical Course of Mold Project (3 h/w) in the 2º semester. His research work has been recognized both nationally and internationally, leading to collaborations with professors from the University of Porto (Portugal), University of Sfax (Tunisia), and University of Cape Verde. In total, he has published 23 papers in highly ranked international peer-reviewed journals, 14 as first author, 7 as corresponding author, accumulating over 549 citations and an h-index of 12 (Scopus). He has also presented 4 oral communications and 10 poster presentations at national and international conferences. . More than 80% of his 23 published scientific papers have been featured in Q1 journals, as determined by Scimago Journal & Country Rank, indicating their high impact and influence in the field. Six of his articles are published in Scopus Top 10% journals as the first author (e.g., Food Hydrocolloids, Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, and Trends in Food Science & Technology). He has served as a reviewer for journals in more than 10 international scientific journals. Recently, he was extended an invitation to contribute as the first author in the chapter on the 3D-printing of bioactive-loaded electrospun/electrosprayed structures for the book titled "Electrospinning and Electrospraying Encapsulation of Food Bioactive Compounds" (ISBN: 9780443222283). He is participating as a Co-Editor of two special issues for Polymers (Biobased, Biodegradable, and Functional Polymers in Agriculture and Food Science) and Frontiers in Nutrition (Food Authenticity and Traceability in Tandem with Computer Science Disciplines).
