I am Naser Abdi, a PhD candidate in Tourism at the University of Algarve (Portugal), with a strong academic and professional background in tourism studies and planning. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management from Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman (Iran), and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in Geography and Tourism Planning at the University of Sistan and Baluchestan (Iran). My MA thesis involved a comparative study of the tourism performance and symbolic significance of the Azadi Tower in Iran and the Eiffel Tower in France, reflecting my early interest in cultural landmarks and their role in shaping national tourism narratives. I am also a research member of the Research Center for Tourism, Sustainability, and Well-being (CinTurs) at the University of Algarve (Portugal). Professionally, I have accumulated several years of hands-on experience in Iran’s tourism sector, particularly in inbound tourism operations, tour management, and strategic planning. In recent years, my scholarly focus has shifted toward gender dynamics within the tourism industry, particularly emphasizing women’s participation and empowerment. I have published a peer-reviewed article on this subject in Current Issues in Tourism (Q1; Impact Factor: 5.7), contributed a book chapter to a volume published by CABI, and presented and published other research outputs in international journals and conferences. My interdisciplinary approach bridges tourism studies, human geography, and gender studies, and I am committed to advancing inclusive and socially responsible tourism research and practice.
