Dr Blanca Isabel Arias-Serrano is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the CICECO - Aveiro (UA) Institute of Materials, Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering, University of Aveiro. She works in the field of Materials Science & Engineering and Solid-State Chemistry & Electrochemistry. She completed her Ph.D. (December 20th, 2017) at University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) with the title “Synthesis and characterization of perovskite-like materials and processing of Ni-YSZ micro-tubes for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells”. During her Ph.D training, she was awarded three consecutive years to stay abroad and acquire relevant expertise in electrical characterization techniques with Prof. Anthony R. West in Sheffield, UK. As a result of this research experience, she succeeded in setting-up and operating new electrical measurement facilities at Carlos III University, which are currently being used by starting Ph.D. students. Her main research activities have been focused on the development and characterization of ceramics materials for energy conversion and storage (solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells, SOFCs and SOECs; reversible solid electrolyte cells, r-SOC), thermoelectric applications, membrane-based technologies, and natural gas and biogas conversion. In addition to main research activities, she contributed to educational processes as an academic staff at UC3M; including more than 600 hours of practical courses in chemistry and materials engineering related disciplines. She has co-authored 14 research papers in SCI journals and other peer-reviewed scientific journals, over 19 oral and poster communications at international scientific conferences and meetings and participates in 6 R&D projects supported by European Commission and national funding agencies. As of the beginning of 2020, she has co-supervised two concluded 2 MSc thesis and 2 student semester projects. She has also participated in 3 MSc and 1 doctoral theses juries. Other relevant experiences include organization of 2 scientific meetings and special courses for undergraduate students at UC3M.
