Elisabete C.B.A. Alegria (EA) is a Coordinator Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department of the Lisbon School of Engineering (ISEL), Polytechnic University of Lisbon. She holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from ISEL and a Ph.D. in Chemistry (2006) from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon. Since 2007, EA has been an integrated researcher at the Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE/IST) (Coordination and Catalysis Group). She has been Vice-President of ISEL since January 2026, responsible for scientific strategy, research and development, and project coordination. In 2025, she served as Scientific Advisor to the President of ISEL. Member of the Coordinating Committee of the Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering at ISEL (2021-2024). Member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Board of ISEL (2017-2021) and member of the Ethics Committee of ISEL (2021-2025). Member of the Statutory Assembly of ISEL (2019-21). Erasmus Coordinator for Chemical and Biological Engineering (2021–2024) and Biomedical Engineering (2024–2025) (Bachelor’s and Master’s programs) with participation in several teaching activities at international institutions. She was a board member and treasurer of the Portuguese Electrochemical Society (2014–18). Between 2014 and 2019, EA was awarded the IPL-CGD Merit Diploma for the Areas of Technology and Engineering, in recognition of her scientific productivity and impact. Her doctoral thesis, entitled "Coordination Chemistry of Scorpionates and Other Unsaturated Nitrogen Ligands on Rhenium, Molybdenum or Iron Centers," focused on the application of scorpionates as catalysts for the activation of small molecules of industrial interest, such as the functionalization of alkanes under mild conditions. Her main research interests range from Coordination and Sustainable Chemistry, Homogeneous and Supported Catalysis, Green and efficient synthetic methodologies, such as direct wet and mechanochemical ball-milling procedures, for the synthezises of metal complexes, coordination polymers, and ultra-dispersed catalytic nanomaterials and Molecular Electrochemistry. Recent work also includes designing catalytic processes for VOC removal and the decomposition and valorization of N2O for biomimetic oxidation reactions.
