Curriculum Vitae
Paulo David Martins Brites
Paulo Brites is a dedicated Materials Science and Engineering PhD student at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering,
affiliated with CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials. He holds a Biochemistry degree (2016) and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology
with a focus on Food Biotechnology (2018), both from the University of Aveiro. During his Master's thesis, Paulo spearheaded
the development of antioxidant-enriched bioplastic materials at the laboratory scale. Paulo contributed significantly as a
research fellow in two prominent projects (POTATOPLASTIC and PLASTICOLIGHT), developing his expertise in crafting biobased
plastics with enhanced mechanical and physicochemical properties. His proficiency spans various techniques commonly employed
in the plastic industry, including solvent casting, melt mixing, hot pressing, injection molding, extrusion, and blown extrusion.
Paulo Brites has demonstrated a strong commitment to disseminating his research findings, presenting at numerous national
and international scientific conferences. Notably, he has delivered 10 oral communications and presented 9 scientific posters,
earning three awards for best presentation at international conferences. As a co-author, he has contributed to two published
scientific articles, submitted another as the first author, and is currently preparing five additional manuscripts as the
first author for submission to high-impact scientific journals. In addition to his academic achievements, Paulo actively sought
international opportunities to broaden his research perspective. He served as a research fellow in two national projects (POTATOPLASTIC
and PLASTICOLIGHT) and engaged in two exchanges under the COST Action CA18132 - Functional Glyconanomaterials for the Development
of Diagnostics and Targeted Therapeutic Probes and in the PROM project at IATA-CSIC (Spain) and Jan Dlugosz University (Poland),
respectively, showcasing his versatility in collaborative international research endeavors. Throughout his PhD journey, Paulo
dedicated a total of five months to research activities at IATA-CSIC (Spain).
