Hamed Moayyed is a Researcher at GECAD, holding an M.Sc. degree in Mathematics from K. N. Toosi University of Technology in Tehran, Iran, which ranks among the top 3 universities in the country. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics (Optoelectronics) from the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2016. Since 2017, he has been engaged in research in power and energy systems at FEUP, and since 2022, he has been a part of GECAD, Polytechnic of Porto (IPP). His research focus is on applying AI techniques to various areas, including Predictive Maintenance, Energy Forecasting, Grid Security and Resilience, and Energy Efficiency Optimization. He excels in utilizing Deep Learning techniques to enhance forecasting accuracy and address challenges in time-series data modeling, noise removal, and data privacy. In his recently published book chapter, Hamed explores the potential of Federated Learning to equip power and energy systems for a more complex future. This chapter discusses the challenges posed by the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and their application in critical infrastructures, including energy grids. In addition to his research endeavors, Hamed supervised 4 PhD and 7 Master's students in the area of Power Systems and AI, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange and skill development. He participated in projects INFUSE (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016731) and IMPROVE (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031823). His tasks involved managing a team of researchers and graduate students, assigning tasks, and coordinating efforts. Additionally, he formulated project goals, work packages, and deliverables. He is currently participating in GECAD Programmatic Funding (UIDP/00760/2020) and He is also was very recently involved in the F4itech project (C2021/1-10), a European project focused on developing innovative AI-based solutions to address challenges in industrial automation. Through this project, he aimed to achieve significant productivity gains and cost savings for manufacturing and transportation industries by applying advanced AI techniques such as Federated Learning and blockchain to optimize production processes and enhance supply chain efficiency within the context of Industry 4.0. Hamed Moayyed has contributed to several high-impact factor journals, including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (IF: 11.2), Energy Conversion and Management (IF: 10.4), and IEEE Systems Journal (IF: 8.7), with multiple published papers. As of February 2024, his work has garnered over 320 citations, resulting in an h-index of 11 according to Google Scholar. Moreover, Hamed has actively contributed to the academic community through his participation in organizing four workshops, and he currently serves as a committee member of the Workshop on AI and Energy at the IEEE Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IEEE CAI 2024).
