I received my bachelor’s degree in 2010 and obtained my MSc degree in 2012, both in Chemical Engineering at Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. During my Bachelor and master’s degrees, I received an Integration Research Grant from FCT and was awarded with two merit scholarships and one best student award. I conducted my MSc thesis at the Institute of Chemical Technology – Prague, investigating the thermodynamic of aqueous solutions of salts containing amino acids. Financed by FCT, I completed my European PhD in Chemical Engineering in June 2017, at University of Aveiro. As part of my PhD, I spent six months at the Warsaw University of Technology exploring ionic liquids (ILs) as separating agents for terpenes, project awarded with a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) within the COST Action EXIL - Exchange on Ionic Liquids (CM1206); and six months at the Faculty of Food Engineering – University of Campinas (Brazil) studying the solid-liquid equilibria of mixtures involving natural compounds. My PhD thesis was awarded by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) as the best European dissertation in Thermodynamics and Transport Properties 2019. Thereafter, I was working as a Post-doc at LSRE – Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering (University of Porto) and CIMO – Mountain Research Center (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança), investigating the extraction, purification and bioavailability of nutraceuticals. From 2019 to 2021, I was a postdoctoral researcher at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials (University of Aveiro) in the European project entitled ‘Green chemicals and technologies for the wood-to-textile value chain’. I was also member in the bilateral Indo-Portuguese FCT project: Solubility of gases in IL or binary mixture of ILs, that allowed two-month exchange with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. In 2021, I worked as an Analytical Development Scientist at the pharmaceutical company Hovione, where my main responsibilities involved developing of analytical methods to support drug substance and drug product at various development stages. Driven by my passion for research, soon I exchanged certainty for uncertainty, and joined NANOPLANT project as a team member, where my main goal was the development and characterization of green and low-cost nano formulations using ionic liquids and eutectic solvents for sustainable agriculture. Currently I am a researcher at Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, conducting scientific research in the field of chemical engineering and green solvents. Recently I secured funding from UNESCO and IUPAC to implement a research project centered on green chemistry. I am author of 50 publications (19 as 1st author) in reputed international peer reviewed scientific journals with 2393 citations (2249 excluding self-citations) and an h-index of 22 (data obtained from Scopus on February 27, 2024). I also periodically act as referee of manuscripts to scientific journals, and supervise numerous BSc projects, and MSc thesis. National and international collaborations with experts provided me experimental and theoretical knowledge allowing me to contribute to innovative works recognized by the academic community and to implement different techniques in other laboratories. During my studies and subsequent scientific activities in the chemical engineering field, I developed a special interest in applied thermodynamics, namely the physicochemical characterization of non-conventional neoteric solvents as ILs, terpenes and eutectic mixtures for the development of new products and chemical processes.
