Mónia A. R. Martins currently holds a permanent position as Auxiliary Researcher at the Mountain Research Center – Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (Portugal). She obtained her B.Sc. (2010) and M.Sc. (2012) degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, followed by a European Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Aveiro (2017), internationally recognized by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) as the Best European PhD Thesis in Thermodynamics and Transport Properties (2019). Her doctoral work included international research stays in Poland and Brazil, focusing on ionic liquids and eutectic systems for separation processes. Following her Ph.D., she held several postdoctoral positions at leading research institutions, including the University of Porto, the University of Aveiro, and the Polish Academy of Sciences, contributing to European-funded projects in green chemistry, materials, and sustainable technologies. She also worked as an Analytical Development Scientist at Hovione (Portugal), focusing on analytical methods for pharmaceutical development. Her scientific activity has resulted in 55 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (20 as first author), accumulating over 3700 citations and an h-index of 25, including three highly cited papers ranked in the top 1% worldwide in the field of Chemistry. She has contributed to book chapters, editorial activities, and special issues in international journals, and regularly acts as a reviewer for scientific publications. She has participated in several national and international research projects and has recently secured funding as a PI from the PhosAgro/UNESCO/IUPAC Green Chemistry for Life Program. She has developed an extensive international research profile, with collaborations and research stays across Europe, Asia, and South America. In parallel with her research activities, she is actively involved in teaching Chemical Engineering courses at both BSc and Master levels, implementing innovative pedagogical approaches based on active learning methodologies and the integration of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles in higher education. She is also involved in scientific supervision, mentoring students at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels, and collaborates widely with international research groups. Her research focuses on sustainability and innovation in chemical engineering, particularly through the design of green solvents, namely ionic liquids, eutectic solvents, and terpene-based systems, for alternative separation processes.
