Mariana Hinzmann is presently a contracted researcher at CIIMAR-UP working on the immunology of aquaculture species (since 2018, using dietary strategies to strengthen the fish’s immune system. She completed her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences in 2016 at the University of Porto (School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences -ICBAS), on bivalves immunology, has a Master's in Advanced Biomolecular Methods in 2005 from University of Aveiro and a degree in Biology in 2002 also by University of Aveiro. Has a 12 h-index in Scopus, published more than 28 articles in journals, several papers on conference meetings presented more than 40 posters and 36 oral communications. Is currently a reviewer in more than 15 peer review journals in her expertise. Has 2 books (s): "A Guide for oyster farming" and "A Guide of Fauna and Flora for the coastal lagoon of Mira", and also helped with the elaboration of an e-learning course on technologies of oyster farming. Has received 3 awards and/or honors. Collaborated and/or participated as Integration into Research Grant Fellow in 12 project(s). In her professional activities interacted with 200 collaborators (s) co-authors of scientific papers. Her main domains of research are immunology and cell biology, especially invertebrates, but also fish. In parallel, she also works on the gametogenesis of invertebrates and microalgae (culture and identification). In terms of techniques, she has a certification to handle animals (FELASA C) and practices in microscopy (optic, fluorescence, and electronic), cell culture techniques, molecular biology, and microbiology. She loves to teach and already had the opportunity to assist classes on animal and cell physiology, and biochemistry and taught microalgae culture techniques for degree courses. In parallel possess a great passion for science divulgation outreach, mainly for children.
