Luís Carlos Ferreira Mendonça completed the Integrated Masters in Medicine in 2013 by Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto. He is a Nephrologist at Centro Hospitalar São João. Additionally, he is a researcher and teacher at Cardiovascular Research Center (UnIC) and attends the PhD Program in Cardiovascular Sciences. He integrates a research group that investigates the role of neurohumoral systems on cardiovascular disease pathophysiology and treatment, namely pulmonary hypertension, ischemic heart disease and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). His personal expertise is centered on vascular territory, including functional and molecular studies. Currently, he is particularly interested in studying the potential diagnostic and therapeutic role of Klotho and FGF-23 in HFpEF associated with chronic kidney disease.
