I am a biologist with a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. Currently, I am working as an assistant researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) at the University of Aveiro. My research is primarily focused on the study of multiple stressors and their combined effects on aquatic ecosystems. I possess extensive experience in ecotoxicological assessments, specifically in evaluating point and diffuse pollution. My expertise extends to investigating the impacts of wildfires on aquatic systems, as well as the effects of microplastics and pesticides in freshwater. I employ various endpoints and approaches, ranging from single-species exposure studies to mesocosm experiments. Throughout my career, I have actively participated in numerous national and international projects, taking on roles as Principal Investigator (PI) for five projects, Co-Principal Investigator (CO-PI) for two, and contributing as a team member in 18 others. These projects have collectively secured over 1.5 million in funding. In my current role, I serve as the coordinator of EcosLab, a Laboratory for Integrated Environmental Assessment, comprising 13 members. I also possess significant experience in mentoring postgraduate students, having supervised nine Ph.D. students (four completed, five ongoing) and 27 master's students. My contributions to the scientific community include being a (co-)author of 85 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals, 11 book chapters, and presenting over 100 communications in international scientific meetings. Notably, my peer-reviewed publications have garnered 2949 citations, with an SCOPUS h-index of 27. I actively collaborate with researchers from various national and international institutions, fostering a network of 307 collaborators with whom I have co-authored scientific papers.
