I am a Nutritional Epidemiologist, a Research Fellow and an Assistant Professor at Nova Medical School, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. I hold a MSc from Wageningen University and a PhD from Newcastle University (thesis: Dietary intake, B vitamins and health outcomes in the very old: analysis of the Newcastle 85+ Study). I worked as a postdoctoral Research Associate at Newcastle University in a H2020-funded project (PRevention Of Malnutrition In Senior Subjects in the EU; lead by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) where I made important contributions and with whom I still collaborate. In 2018, I was awarded a prestigious Marie Curie fellowship to determine the impact of dietary protein on the disability process in older adults (InDEPENDEnt project) and I joined Nova Medical School where I also teach/supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students. Late 2021 I was awarded a CEEC which will allow me to continue researching the role of protein and physical activity on physical function in ageing for the next 6 years (IPHUNCTION project). I have co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, such as The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (IF:8.5), Age & Ageing (IF:10.7) and the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle (IF:12.9), of which the majority are first or second authorships. I have an h-index of 20, i10-index of 25 and more than 1200 citations according to google scholar (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=iSoUMbAAAAAJ&hl=en).
