Carlos Rebelo graduated from the University of Coimbra in 1980, obtained his Master from the Technical University of Lisbon in 1985 and the PhD from The Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1992. He is currently Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Department (DEC) of the University of Coimbra in the field of structural mechanics working in Dynamics of Structures, Earthquake Engineering and Lifetime Engineering with applications in railway bridges, footbridges, supporting structures for wind energy converters and lightweight steel construction. He is author or co-author of more than four hundred publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings. He is member of international technical committees, such as: the project teams for Eurocode 8 – seismic Design (SC8-PT5) and Eurocode 3 – Steel Towers, Masts and Chimneys (SC3-PT11), the ECCS technical groups TC13 'seismic design', and TC16 ‘Support Structures for Wind Energy’ and the CENELEC/IEC TC88 – Towers for Wind Turbines. He is or was coordinator or member of the research team of several research projects funded by the National Research Foundation and by the European Commission. He his supervisor of five concluded PhD theses.
