Petia Georgieva is Associate Professor (with habilitation, DSc) with the University of Aveiro, Portugal where she teaches Artificial Intelligence related courses (machine learning, deep learning, artificial neural networks modelling) at undergraduate, master and PhD levels. She is a researcher with the Institute of Electronics and Informatics Engineering of Aveiro (IEETA), Portugal, and a member of the Institute of Telecommunications-Aveiro. Previously she had research position with the University of Porto (2001-2003), research visiting positions with the Rowan University (USA), Carnegie Mellon University (USA), University of Lancaster (UK) and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, (Bulgaria). Her research interests include machine learning, deep learning and data mining with application focus on image processing, 5G+ networks, brain computer interfaces. She has coauthored more than 150 publications registered in Scopus, supervised 14 Ph.D. dissertations and 66 Master theses. She has been involved in several projects funded by European grants (European Commission, European Science Foundation), the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology FCT, PT2020/PT2030, PRR funding institutions, MSCA DN, and the industry (Bosch, AlticeLab, Nokia, Infinera, etc.). She regularly acts as an Expert for European Research Programmes. She is a Member of the Board of Governors of International Neural Network Society (INNS) and an Associated Editor in the Elsevier Q1 Journals Neural Networks and Pattern Recognition.
