Vera Neves holds a PhD degree in Bionanotechnology, from University of Surrey, UK, obtained as part of a Marie Curie fellowship. Currently, she is a Staff Scientist (Research Assistant level) at iMM and an Invited assistant professor at Lisbon School of Medicine. Vera Neves has more than 15 years¿ experience in translational research, focusing on the delivery of therapeutics across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for the treatment and diagnosis of brain diseases. At the Physical Biochemistry of Drugs & Targets Lab led by Prof. Miguel Castanho, Dr. Neves is responsible for a specific line of research and was the first to establish the in vitro models of the BBB (2D); to discover new BBB peptide shuttle; and supervised the work for the development of breast cancer (BC) spheroids and BC therapeutics. Dr. Neves has international experience, she has worked in both industrial (Biopeptides Corp., USA and TechnoPhage) and academia (University of Surrey, UK and iMM) environments and has engaged in research visits to different institutes (in Poland, Spain, Hungary, USA). Dr. Neves has coordinated five projects related to BBB crossing (total of 1,234,846.01¿), having 38 high-impact publications (9 as corresponding author) and 4 international patents (H-index of 17). Dr. Neves manages a team of six researchers (post-doctoral researchers, PhD students, MSc researcher and students). She collaborates with different national and international groups, including Dr. Ramos-Cabrer from CIC biomaGUNE, Spain with expertise in preclinical imaging in vivo; and Dr. Deli from Biological Research Centre, Hungary, with expertise in BBB models.
