Inês Castro is a dedicated marine researcher from Portugal with specialized expertise in bivalve histopathology, molecular diagnostics, and environmental monitoring. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Marine Sciences and a Master's in Applied Marine Biology from the University of Aveiro, where her thesis focused on the spatial and temporal variation of parasites in cockles from the Ria de Aveiro. Her research integrates histopathological techniques, DNA extraction, and PCR-based identification of novel parasites, contributing to the understanding of marine ecosystem health. With extensive experience in live bivalve sampling, gonadal cycle detection, and environmental monitoring—including GIS-based mapping and boat-based field campaigns—her interdisciplinary approach blends marine biology, pathology, and remote sensing, supporting environmental management.
