Rafael Salgueiro is a physicist-engineer who graduated in Engineering Physics from the University of Aveiro (2025), where he developed a solid background in semiconductor physics, materials science, experimental characterisation techniques, and theoretical modelling. His scientific interests focus on optical spectroscopy, structural characterisation, semiconductor defect physics, and computational modelling of physical systems. Throughout his academic path, he has been actively involved in research activities, participating in funded projects that integrate experimental and theoretical approaches. These experiences provided him with strong skills in data analysis, problem-solving, and collaborative scientific work within multidisciplinary environments. Rafael is the author of a scientific publication, resulting from one of the research projects in which he participated, reflecting his engagement with research and his commitment to contributing to the scientific community. His Master’s thesis focused on the study of semiconductor materials, with particular emphasis on defect-related optical and structural properties. His work involved the application of optical spectroscopy techniques alongside structural characterisation methods to better understand the role of impurities and defects. This research provided him with hands-on experience in experimental techniques, data interpretation, and the integration of results within a broader physical framework. In parallel, he developed an interest in computational approaches, particularly Density Functional Theory, as a complementary tool to interpret and predict material properties at the atomic scale. He is especially motivated to bridge experimental observations with theoretical modelling, contributing to the development of more efficient optoelectronic materials.
