Valentina Bonomi

Valentina Bonomi is an Italian researcher at the CEGIST research group at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. Her academic background is firmly rooted in Operations Research, where she applies mathematical optimization methods to address complex real-world problems across socially relevant domains. She holds a BSc and an MSc in Management Engineering from the University of Brescia (Italy), complemented by a research period at CIRRELT, Université Laval (Quebec, Canada), which contributed to shaping her interest in applied optimization and international research environments. She obtained her PhD in Information Engineering from the University of Brescia under the supervision of Prof. Renata Mansini, specializing in Rich Vehicle Routing Problems with applications in healthcare logistics and last-mile delivery. Since 2020, she has been actively involved in teaching as a teaching assistant for Operations Research and Mathematical Analysis courses, contributing to undergraduate education and student mentoring. Valentina is currently an ERA Fellow (MSCA-PF) at Instituto Superior Técnico, where she conducts independent postdoctoral research within the GLOBE project, focusing on sustainable last-mile delivery strategies in two-echelon distribution systems with eco-conscious customer behavior. This fellowship represents a key milestone in her transition toward research independence and has allowed her to consolidate a coherent research agenda at the intersection of optimization, sustainability, and urban logistics. Her strong commitment to international collaboration is reflected in multiple research visits and exchange programs, including stays at CEGIST (Portugal), Southern Denmark University, University of Bucharest (Erasmus+), and Université Laval. These experiences have provided her with a broad methodological perspective and reinforced her ability to operate in interdisciplinary and international research settings. Overall, her academic trajectory combines methodological rigor, international exposure, and applied impact, positioning her as an emerging independent researcher in Operations Research.
