Mário Guerreiro Silva Ferreira obteve o Título de Agregado em Engenharia Química em 1992 pela Universidade Técnica de Lisboa Instituto Superior Técnico, Licenciatura em Engenharia Química em 1971 pela Universidade Técnica de Lisboa Instituto Superior Técnico e Doctor of Philosophy em Corrosion and Protection Engineering em 1981 pela The University of Manchester - UMIST, com equivalência ao Doutoramento em Engenharia Química pelo IST (1982). É Professor Catedrático Jubilado; Professor Catedrático Convidado na Universidade de Aveiro (207-2021) e Investigador do CICECO. É sócio e co-fundador da empresa Smallmatek (2010), start-up da Universidade de Aveiro. Representa Portugal no Conselho Internacional de Corrosão, participando em diferentes grupos de trabalho da Federação Europeia de Corrosão, sendo durante 4 anos membro do seu Conselho de Administração. Foi ainda Membro do “Steel Advisory Group” do “Research Steel and Coal Fund” da União Europeia durante 10 anos, até 2019. Foi Subdiretor-Geral do Ensino Superior (Ministério da Ciência e Ensino Superior de Portugal) (2003-2007) e Membro do Conselho Científico de Ciências Exatas e Engenharia da “Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (FCT), Portugal (2013-2016).
