I have been a research fellow at the Centre of Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP) since 2010. My CV includes participation in six European and four national research projects in the field of citizenship education, lifelong learning, and social and educational innovation through technology, eleven articles in peer-reviewed journals (most of them SCOPUS), six book chapters (two of them in Routledge and Palgrave), two edited books, three conference papers, 12 reports, more than 12 oral presentations, five scientific consultancies, and participation in the organisation of five scientific events. My main contributions and achievements emerged from the work on analysing youth experiences in different social contexts for citizenship education, such as schools, voluntary associations, or videogames, and their impact on their knowledge, capacities, values, and dispositions that enable them to fully participate in society. As in the case of the current research proposal, my past research has been steered by the will to substantially improve youth experiences in diverse formal, non-formal, and informal education contexts to a more inclusive and participatory democratic society.

2021/06 - 2023/08 Participation as a Scientific Consultant in the impact evaluation of the URGENT YOUTH project promoted by PELE and founded by Calouste Gulbenkian and Bissaya Barreto Foundation. My role was to assess the impact of participation in the Youth Urgent Project, in terms of youth democratic political involvement (e.g. political interest, critical thinking, political literacy and action), assessing the potential of artistic languages and interventions, in articulation with activist practices, in promoting civic and political participation. 2022/11/11 Findings from the EDe research project were highlighted in one of the main newspapers in Portugal. In this interview, it was discussed the potential effects of excessive, problematic or compulsive use of video games and social networks on the health of young students. The project results revealed that around 40% of Portuguese youth spend two or more hours a day surfing social networks. Jornal Público
2022/04/04 Findings from the EDe research project were highlighted in one of the main newspapers in Portugal. In this interview, it was discussed how distance learning generated or enhanced educational inequalities in Portugal. The project results showed how students from more vulnerable socioeconomic contexts, who do not have the resources and conditions necessary for educational processes in distance learning, are the ones who experienced more difficulties with the change of teaching modality and have worse evaluations of school performance at present.
