Since 2020, I am head of the Wildlife Research Unit (UVS), from CESAM's Adaptation Biology and Ecological Processes research group. I am also one of the Coordinators of the Cooperation Board for the Forest, at UAVR, responsible for the biodiversity chair. I am currently an assistant researcher at CESAM and Department of Biology at the University of Aveiro since 2012, and have been a part-time assistant professor at this institution from 2013 to 2019. I am also an invited assistant professor at University Lúrio, in Mozambique, since 2015. I hold a PhD in Biology, from University of Aveiro, since 2011. I was assistant professor at the University of Cape Verde, in 2011/12, where I was also Assistant Coordinator of Biology courses and member of the Scientific Council of this institution. As a researcher, my main areas of interest are: (i) to understand how population dynamics, structure, diversity and gene flow is affected by changes in land-use and land-cover; (ii) to understanding the process of biodiversity loss and the impact of anthropogenic stressors in this process; (iii) to identify vulnerable species, traits and taxa and help designing conservation measures; (iv) to promote the integration of biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of ecosystems by human populations. I have also often collaborated in education and awareness projects for biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability. I am the author or co-author of one book, two book chapters and 37 articles and 5 proceedings papers on internationally indexed journals (WoS or SCOPUS) and 20 other technical and scientific publications in the same area. I am also author/co-author of more than 80 presentations at scientific meetings and 17 lectures as guest speaker in scientific/dissemination events. I have led or collaborated in the supervision of 61 students, including 26 master's students. I currently supervise one Post-doc researcher, two PhD and seven MSc students.
