Alessandro Nuccio is a molecular biologist with a strong academic background and international research experience in molecular biology, cancer biology, and biotechnology. He graduated at highschool as a chemical-biological technician and had the opportunity to work and learn biochemical and molecular techniques at public and private research institutions in Palermo. He then earned a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Palermo, graduating with the maximum grade, carrying a final project on NGS and personalized medicine in cancer treatment. He continued his studies at the same university by enrolling in the Master's degree course in Molecular Biology and Health, where he acquired a broad knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology, functional genomics and epigenetic. Driven by a desire to broaden his horizons, he developed his thesis abroad at the University of Aveiro under the supervision of Dra. Rita Ferreira. His project focused on sex- and age-related mitochondrial proteomic differences during sarcopenia, combining biochemical and bioinformatics methodologies. During this experience, he also acquired a range of soft skills such as integrating into an international research team. He finished the master with the maximum grade and from his work resulted the authorship of a review paper and a co-authorship of one experimental article both published in Q1 journals. After this, he decided to continue to gain experience abroad in order to learn new techniques and acquire knowledge in new areas. He joined University of Würzburg, in Germany, as a research fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Georg Nagel in the development and application of new optogenetic tools for the study of megakaryocytes and platelets. During this experience he gained skills in bioengineering and molecular techniques and AI and deep learning-based bioinformatics tools. He then decided to return to University of Aveiro to increase his knowledge in biotechnology. Working in Dr. João Mano's COMPASS group, developing in vitro disease models that replicate tissue microenvironments, integrating immune and stromal components for regenerative medicine applications Throughout his academic career, Alessandro has also shown strong leadership and communication skills. He was coordinator of a student association recognized by the National Order of Biologists, organizing scientific seminars, and taught university preparation courses for aspiring medical and biological science students. His ability to communicate scientific concepts clearly, both in writing and orally, is one of his key strengths.
