Andrea Zille graduated in Environmental Science with Environmental Biochemistry specialization from the University of Venice (Italy) in 2000. Later, in 2005, He completed a PhD degree in Enzymatic Oxidation Processes applied to bioremediation (formally PhD in Textile Engineering - Textile Chemistry) at the University of Minho (Portugal) financed with an individual FCT grant . Between 2006 and 2011 he had two postdoctoral periods funded by two individual FCT Post-doctoral grants. First at the University of Minho under the theme "Enzymatic Coating of Fiber of Technical Interest". Second at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC) under the theme "Removal of heavy metals from polluted waters using cyanobacterial exopolysaccharide (EPS)". He was elected member of the Executive Council of IBMC as a representative of Fellow PhD researchers in 2009 and 2010. He has participated as a team member in several European FP5 and FP6-funded R&D projects and COST Actions. In January 2012 he was hired by the University of Minho for a 4 years contract in the scope of FCT's "Ciência 2008" program. He leads the investigation line: "Biotechnology and nanotechnology applied to materials" at the Centre for Textile Science and Technology (2C2T). In July 2017 he was hired by the University of Minho for a 5 years contract in the scope of FCT's "IF 2015" program. From January 2020 and September 2022, he was a Tenure Assistant Researcher at 2C2T leading the Investigation line in the nanomodification of fibrous materials for health applications. From September 2022 he is an Associate Professor at the Textile Engineering Department of the University of Minho. Since 2016 he is invited to professor of the Master in Textile Engineering at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande de Norte (UFRN) in Brazil. In 2018-19 he was the Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) at the Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories for the textile greenhouse fluorinated gas emissions chapter in the IPCC refinement 2019. In 2021 and 2022 he was listed in the World's Top 2% Scientists list promoted by the University of Stanford (USA) and Elsevier Editorial Group. Since November 2022 he is the Director of 2C2T at the University of Minho.
