CATARINA GRANDE, Ph.D. in Psychology, is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in pre and post-graduate studies at the Faculty of Psychology & Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP) and an integrated member of the Center of Psychology of the University of Porto (Portugal). Her areas of scientific activity are Educational and Developmental Psychology, Early Childhood Intervention, and recently Pediatric Psychology. Her main research interest is preschool children with typical and atypical development and she has participated in different research projects in early childhood education and early childhood intervention, including a study of good practices in early intervention (funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation), an evaluation of Portugal’s the pre-school program and curriculum (funded by the Portuguese Ministry of Education), a study of responsive teaching for parents in early intervention (a collaboration with Case Western Reserve University funded by Fulbright Foundation) and teacher-child interactions and engagement of children with special educational needs in daycare and pre-school (PhD Fellowship from Foundation for Science and Technology). Regarding materials development, she participated in the Im2 – Intervir Mais, Intervir Melhor, a practice guide for Early Intervention professionals (Recommended Practices in Early Childhood Intervention). In terms of outreach, she has presented dozens of trainings and workshops for teachers and directors on quality improvement assessments and coaching, and also many workshops for parents of children with disabilities. She has published in diverse areas including child development, health, and psychology. While accomplishing all of this, she has also supervised several graduate students in research about the study of teacher-child interactions, participation, and engagement of children within daycare and preschool contexts.
