Fabiana Yamasaki Martins Vieira is a Chemist graduated by University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil), one of the best Universities in both Brazil and Latin America, in a 4 + 2 year course (Bachelor with Technological Attributions in 2006 and Licentiate Degree in 2008). Fabiana completed the course with the highest average of the course, 7.5 out of 10, equivalent to 15 values on the Portuguese scale of 0 to 20, been awarded by the Regional Council of Chemistry - Region IV with the 'Lavoisier Prize', distinction conferred to the best finalist of the Chemistry Course. She started her career in a Laboratory of Organic Chemistry where she published three papers as co-author. After that she worked for eight years as researcher at the Institute for Technological Research (IPT, Brazil) where she published one patent and three more papers, being the first author of one. She was a Research Fellow for 18 months at the University of Aveiro (UA) in the Laboratory for Molecular Studies of Marine Environments (LEMAM) at Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) where she worked with encapsulation of DNA molecules, and, as result of her work, one patent was submitted. During this time, Fabiana worked with real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) and DNA extraction, including the use of Fastprep equipment and DNA purification techniques. She also worked at Smallmatek (an R&D company focused on the development of nanostructured materials), whereas as Chemical Analyst she performed synthesis and analysis of nanomaterials at pilot scale. During her carrier, Fabiana completed several internships and advanced training in the field of nanotechnology in Germany (Fraunhofer Institute and Max-Planck Institute) and in Portugal (CICECO - University of Aveiro) with emphasis on the encapsulation of several molecules (biocides, corrosion inhibitors and organic compounds). Fabiana worked as Research Fellow at the UA, in the Laboratory of Chemical Sensors (LoCS) of CESAM, working on the development of a biosensor using aptamers as a biomolecular recognition element for paralytic shellfish toxin (PST) detection. In this project, Fabiana worked with systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) to choose the most suitable aptamer and perform PCR, gel electrophoresis, enzyme digestion of double-stranded DNA to single-stranded DNA and DNA purification. Currently, Fabiana is a PhD Student of the Doctoral Program in Biology and Ecology of Global Changes with her work supported by FCT through individual scholarship reference number 2020.05408.BD. The title of her work is ARISE - Effects of free and encapsulated anticancer biomolecules in zebrafish and it aims at evaluating the effects of anticancer substances to zebrafish when delivered per se or in nano-drug delivery systems. In summary, Fabiana has 2 patents (1 already granted), published 6 scientific articles, being the first author in one of them and presented several scientific communications in scientific conferences.
