Davide Gamboa is an assistant lecturer in Marine Geology at the Geoscience department of the University of Aveiro, after holding post-doctoral researcher positions at the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera - IPMA, I.P. (Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere), the British Geological Survey (BGS) and Cardiff University. Holds a PhD from Cardiff University and a honours degree in Geology and Natural Resources from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Main research and work focuses on the role of Geosciences on the energy transition and sustainability, with interests on geohazards and infrastructure, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), subsurface energy storage and energy exploration, and offshore freshened groundwater. Former experience in the drilling industry, responsible for the monitoring of drilling processes and geological evaluation of offshore exploration oil and gas wells at Geoservices International (now part of Schlumberger), and for onshore geothermal wells at GeoTerceira (Azores). He is currently co-leader of Work Package 1 of the OFF-SOURCE COST action, focused on the assessment and development of offshore freshened groundwater resources. At the University of Aveiro, Davide is involved in the teaching of Geological Oceanography, Geophysics for Hydrocarbon Prospection, Monitoring of Environmental and Marine Systems, Geophysical Prospection, and Processing of Geophysical and Marine Data. He is involved in Geology outreach and collaborates in the Geosciences department's activities for the UA Summer Schools, Xperimenta week and other school visits. Specialties: Sedimentology, 3D seismic interpretation, seismic stratigraphy, deepwater clastic sedimentary systems, submarine landslides, turbidite systems, petroleum geoscience, petrophysics, CCS, offshore freshened groundwater, offshore drilling.

2015 - 2021 IGCP-640 project (S4SLIDE)- This project is part of an initiative by the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) and UNESCO, and is built upon the successful E-MARSHAL and IGCP-511 proposals also known as the Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences project. The IGCP-640 project will focus on facilitating the interaction of scientists, engineers, industry and government representatives, and other parties interested in subaqueous mass movements and their geohazard potential, especially those from historically under-represented countries.
