Maria Emilia Brassesco is a Researcher at CBQF/ESB-UCP, which stands for Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina, Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, Universidade Católica Portuguesa. She earned her bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the National University of Rosario in Argentina. In 2019, she successfully completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences, conducting her research at the National University of Rosario (Argentina) and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga, Portugal. Throughout her career, Maria Emilia has demonstrated a strong commitment to scientific contributions, boasting at least 22 publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Notably, she served as the first author of 7 of these publications and contributed to 5 chapter books. Recognized for her expertise, she was invited for 1 keynote moderation (Alphamais closing session) and 3 oral presentations and accepted for more than 5 oral presentations at various international conferences. Maria Emilia's editorial prowess is evident in her role as the editor of 3 Special Issues and 1 book, all published in high-impact international journals. Her Ph.D. work delved into biotechnological processes, specifically focusing on the isolation and purification of proteins, enzymatic activity, and the production and characterization of polymer materials. Currently, Maria Emilia's research interests revolve around the valorization of agro-forestry and fishery by-products, as well as the development of functional food products and ingredients. Over the years, María Emilia has actively contributed to the teams of various research projects funded by the European Commission, Science FONCyT, and FCT. In addition to her role as a researcher, she has successfully undertaken project management responsibilities, honing her skills and expertise in project supervision and execution, demonstrating effectiveness and solidity in her approach. Furthermore, in recent years, Maria Emilia has gained significant experience in mentoring and guiding students at different academic levels. This includes mentoring undergraduate students (2 co-orientations and 1 mentorship), guiding master's students (mentorship), and supervising doctoral candidates (2 co-orientations and 3 mentorships). Her commitment to fostering the development of emerging scholars is evident in her diverse mentoring roles. Since last year, Maria Emilia has been serving as a professor of General Chemistry at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (UCP), Porto, where she has engaged in both theoretical and practical teaching activities. This reflects her dedication not only to advanced research but also to the education and mentorship of the next generation of scientists across various academic levels.
