Joaquim Fernando Almeida Alves has a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the Engineering Faculty of University of Porto (1994), followed a master in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1998) and PhD studies (2007) in Engineering Sciences, also at the University of Porto. At the present he is Adjunct Professor at Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), teaching in this institution since 1997. Director of Instrumentation and Metrology Engineering masters course, of ISEP, from April 2012 to September 2016. Director of the Physics Department of ISEP, since June 2016. He has a strong background in instrumentation and monitoring of structures using electronic and optical fiber sensors. For several years he is responsible for the curricular units of Biological Signal Processing and Data Acquisition and Management of the degrees in ECIM (Medical Computing and Instrumentation Engineering) and EIM (Metrological Instrumentation Engineering). He has supervised several final student projects at BSc degree level. He has participated as a researcher in 2 research projects and published 5 papers in the proceedings of international conferences, in the area of “Monitoring of structures using fiber optic sensors”.
