Sandra Anjo graduated in Biotechnology in 2009, completed her master's degree in Biomedical Research with Specialization in Neuroscience in 2011, and her Ph.D. degree in Biosciences at the University of Coimbra in 2017. She was a postdoc fellow in a project devoted to biomarker discovery in diseases that have synaptic dysfunction as a common denominator and a doctoral researcher at Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology - University of Coimbra devoted to a translational project for biomarker discovery in HIE (Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy). From October 2021 to May 2022, she was an Assistant Researcher at the University of Coimbra under the scope of a Teaming for Excellence European Union project, the MIA-Portugal project (Grant agreement ID: 857524) whose aim is to create a Centre of Excellence called the Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing (MIA) focused on the study of the aging process. Presently, she has a CEEC Junior Researcher position (2021.04378.CEECIND). Sandra has been working in neuroproteomics for over 11 years. During this period, she has been actively involved in the development of an effective quantitative mass spectrometry (MS) strategy for discovery proteomics, called SWATH-MS, being a pioneer in its use in Portugal and being amongst its most experienced users, as showed by her 38 publications using this method. Importantly, she settled a new proteomics approach to assess cysteine redox state (OxSWATH) and implemented an innovative biomarkers pipeline for circulating biomarker discovery using the referred method. Sandra is co-author of 6 book chapters and 44 papers in international peer-review journals (mainly at Q1; 5 at Top 5%) with an accumulated IF of 226.672 ((Journal Citation Reports) and over 1727 citations (Google Scholar) resulting in an h-index of 17 (according to Web of Science). Of these, she is the co-senior author of 1 paper and 1 book chapter, the first author of 3 chapters, and 9 papers (6 as corresponding author and one included in the top 20 of the most downloaded articles) published in top specialty journals in the areas of proteomics and redox biology. Sandra's works were selected for 25 international meetings (including 8 oral communications) and invited twice to be presented at international meeting devoted to redox biology. Besides that, Sandra has received several awards, including 3 project grants from BioStructX, Instruct-ERIC, and EPIC-XS. Her work was also important to build an advanced international course financially supported twice by Instruct-ERIC and for the design and approval of several FCT projects. Sandra has actively taken part in the organization of advanced courses as a member of the scientific committee and by giving lectures in advanced courses integrated into Ph.D. programs and co-mentoring and supervising students (totaling 22 students). Sandra is also actively involved in peer-reviewing for more than 30 journals (in accordance with Publons) and was invited to be an editor of a JoVe collection on methods to address cysteine-oxidation and to be a guest editor of a Special issue on thiol-proteomics in the Antioxidants journal. Importantly, she won a project grant as principal investigator (EXPL/BTM-TEC/1407/2021) funded in the previous FCT call, devoted to the study of the mitochondrial-thiol dysfunction on Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
