2022/07/01 - 2022/07/01 Panel New Imperialism and the technoscientific construction of natural resources, 1870-1945 | The notion of 'available natural resources' had often to be constructed in order to legitimize colonialism, and a variety of technoscientific tools were deployed for that end. The papers in this panel analyze the actors, tools, and ideologies recruited to drive colonial investments, using a comparative approach to identify any commonalities in the colonial strategies taken by different colonial powers. 2022/02/21 - 2022/03/21 Science Diplomacy, Diversity and Global South | European history, including both clashes among European powers and colonialism and imperialism, plays an inseparable role in the Global North-Global South architecture. Science diplomacy is particularly well placed to assume the role of mediator in what concerns common global challenges and development issues. This conference will address different perspectives on how a new vision and practice of science diplomacy may be critical to bridge Global North's and Global South's interests. In this discussion panel, we want to analyse the potential of performance and theatre to address the challenges of the Anthropocene with authors who have engaged with it in their artistic work: Daniel Gamito Marques, and Isabel Costa. The debate will be mediated by Juan Luis Toboso, a curator and researcher with an extensive experience in curatorship. (2021/11/25 - 2021/11/27)

However, these initiatives have been developed independently in contexts that are geographically dispersed. Successful strategies need to be shared between like-minded professionals and challenges encountered must be discussed in order to find solutions. (2021/07/29 - 2021/07/30)

2022/02/09 - 2022/06/20 In the last years, epistemological perspectives on what constitutes an 'archive' have undergone significant change. The archive has become a subject of study for historians, as part of an 'archival turn' The aim of this seminar is to reflect on the evolution of the archive in the last 500 years, and to discuss the historiographical debates that have marked the last decades regarding the relationships that historians have established with archives.

2022/03/24 - 2022/03/24 In this workshop, InsSciDE case study authors, invited experts and public attendees engage with historical research on science diplomacy to identify cross-cutting themes and present-day applications for teaching, training and everyday practice. Spanning the project themes of Health, Space, Security, and Science Diplomats, the cases dissect power structures and vested interests that drive science diplomacy, question the very notion of a 'science diplomat', and probe the alleged capacity of science diplomacy to champion global challenges.

2022/03/22 - 2022/03/23 InsSciDE's third open conference explores crucial themes in Europe's relationships to the emergent poles of scientific expertise and influence. DAY 1 spotlights the role of Academies of Science in science diplomacy, charting Academies' international action since the 18th century. In DAY 2 diverse stakeholders come together to discuss the entanglements between science diplomacy and four topics deemed central to future action: Open Science, Anthropocene, Technoscience and Innovation, and New Actors and a New Definition of Science Diplomacy.

2022/03/22 - 2022/03/22 Academies have played a significant role in structuring the concept of science diplomacy, notably with the Royal Society's 2010 report 'New frontiers in science diplomacy' published with AAAS. This congress builds on previous exploratory work between InsSciDE and the European Network of Academies to delineate the role of academies as science diplomacy organizations, particularly concerning their international involvement and role in asserting science diplomacy. I served as the chair of Session 2 on 22 March 2022.
