Graduation in Biology at University of Lisbon in 2000. Master in Conservation Biology at the University of Évora in 2005. Completed the PhD in Biology at University of Évora in 2010. At present is assistant researcher at MED -Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development, University of Évora. Primary goal is to conduct applied research in conservation biology that simultaneously addresses basic ecological questions. So far, research has been largely focused on improving our understanding of the drivers and mechanisms controling species persistence in spatially structured heterogeneous environments, using mostly, but not only, mammalian species in fragmented farmland as model-systems. Published 39 papers in peer reviewed academic journals (Google scholar: H-index 17; ca. 981 citations). Organized 5 conference events. Participated in >50 national and international conferences and seminars, including as keynote speaker. Is member of the IUCN Small Mammal Specialist Group. Lectured > 100 hours in MSc courses. Supervised one PhD, 6 MSc and 3 LSc/BSc dissertations. Currently supervises 3 PhDs and one MSc. Participates and/or participated in >10 R&D projects (one as PI, one as co-PI) and cooperation protocols/agreement services (one as executive coordinator), within the main fields of conservation biology, ecology, and conservation genetics.
