Herbert Middleton is a Biotechnologist and Biomaterials Scientist based in Porto, Portugal. With a strong academic background and extensive scientific work experience, Herbert has made significant contributions in various research projects and academic endeavours. Currently, Herbert is a Contracted Researcer at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S) at the University of Porto, where he is part of the Advanced Graphene Biomaterials Group. Herbert's academic journey began at the University of Aveiro, where he completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. During his Master's program in Biomedical Materials and Devices, Herbert conducted his thesis research within the COMPASS Research Group at the CICECO Institute of Materials. His thesis focused on the development of human-based, patient-specific, multimaterial 3D scaffolds for various biomedical applications. Throughout this project, Herbert gained expertise in rheological and viscometric studies, hydroxyapatite synthesis, and particle functionalisation techniques. In addition to his academic achievements, Herbert actively engaged in extracurricular activities and professional development opportunities. He served as a mentor for Bioengineering master's students at i3S and participated in various scientific conferences, where he delivered oral presentations on topics related to energy harvesting strategies for medical devices. He is also the social media manager for the group. Herbert possesses a diverse skill set, including proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, LaTeX, and Python. He is adept at using analysis software like MS Excel, OriginLab, GraphPad, among many others, and he has expertise in material characterisation techniques and experience biological performance techniques. Moreover, Herbert is fluent in English and Portuguese, with strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills. Overall, Herbert Middleton's career reflects a deep commitment to scientific research and innovation in the field of biotechnology and biomaterials.
