Valeria Fanti has a Bachelor in Civil Environmental Engineering, obtained in February 2017 at the University degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata¿ with 105/110 (which corresponds to 19 in the Portuguese scale). After she did an internship at the Global Ocean Satellite (GOS) monitoring research group of the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-ISAC) in Rome, under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Bignami. There she processed raw CTD cruise data via the Sea-Bird Electronics processing software and she did quality control and conversion of the same data via the SeaDataNet protocols. She then enrolled in the Master in Marine and Coastal Systems at the Universidade do Algarve (UAlg), which she completed in December 2019 with a final grade of 18/20. There she got an in-depth education on Marine Sciences, including biology, chemistry, physics, and geological aspects of marine/coastal systems. In particular, she learnt how to: evaluate environmental risks; evaluate the trophic state of waters; model coastal and marine systems (with MOHID); process oceanographic data (with R and Matlab); model waves, tides and currents; elaborate and analyse bathymetric mapping (with MIRONE and QGIS); elaborate programs of environmental monitoring. Due to her interest in wave modelling, she spent 6 months at the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC) in Lisbon where she received training in SWAN (Simulating WAves Nearshore) a third-generation spectral wave model. There she developed her Master's Thesis on an 'Application of SNL-SWAN model on the effect of the wave farms in the wave propagation', under the supervision of Dra. Conceição Juana Fortes (LNEC) and Dr. José Jacob (UAlg). From the results of her thesis and from the collaboration with Dr. André Pacheco as external collaborator in the Centro de Investigação Marinha e Ambiental of UAlg, she developed her expertise with the SWAN wave model, which led to the paper that she has submitted to the 4th International Conference on Renewable Energies Offshore (RENEW2020). Therefore, as a Master Student she participated in 2 projects and as research assistant in 1 other project. She was a Research Trainee at the Polytechnic of Turin, where she worked on the wave energy resource assessment for the ISWEC (Inertial Sea Wave Energy Converter) device at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (DIMEAS), in the research group of Dra. Giuliana Mattiazzo and Dr. Giovanni Bracco. In particular, she used Matlab and Python to process and analyse wave parameters from global models (e.g. ERA5 from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast ECMWF), local models (e.g. data produced with SWAN, WAM, MIKE21) and in-situ buoy data (e.g, from the RON, Italian national data buoy network). The scatter matrices of wave occurrences and wave energy density produced at several locations in the Mediterranean and in the world are part of the 'Decarbonisation of the offshore industry: Report on the installation site, with resource identification' report for the Italian oil and gas company Eni. She also participated in different events and courses (3) related to wave energy converters (WECs) and numerical modelling of WECs, as well as at the EWTEC 2019, the 13th European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference. In November 2020 she started a PhD in Marine, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Algarve under the supervision of Óscar Ferreira and Carlos Loureiro to develop a 'Global assessment of coastal storm hazards on coastal barriers in a changing climate using process-based indicators'. She works in the area(s) of Natural Sciences with emphasis on Earth and Environmental Sciences and Oceanography, Marine/Environmental Engineering and Technology. Regarding the languages, she obtained in 2016 an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certificate with 7. 5 (C1) and in 2023 she obtained a B2 level in Portuguese.

2019/10/21 - 2019/10/25 Research Data Management (RDM) covers the planning, creating, storing, organizing, accessing, sharing, describing, publishing, curating of data. RDM is mandated by many funding agencies and increasingly by governments to provide access to funded research results. The management of data, particularly large-scale data, has many challenges, and the roles of researchers, facilities that manage marine data, repositories and libraries are coming together to provide access, preservation and archive of this data and the scholarly products associated with it
