Regina Duarte is Principal Investigator at the University of Aveiro, Department of Chemistry & Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM). She also serves as the coordinator of the Research Group "Biogeochemical Processes and Pollutants" and co-coordinator of the Thematic Line "Environment & Health", both at CESAM. Regina Duarte obtained a degree in Analytical Chemistry (1998), a MSc in Sciences of the Coastal Zone (2001), and a PhD in Chemistry (2006), all at the University of Aveiro (UA). Upon obtaining in June 2009 an FCT Ciência 2008 Assistant Researcher position, Regina Duarte established her own research group at the Department of Chemistry & CESAM, in UA. In 2015, Regina Duarte was awarded a FCT Investigator grant (Development Grant), for the period 2017-2021, at CESAM/UA. In 2018, Regina Duarte obtained a Fulbright Grant for Portuguese Scholars and Researchers (Advanced Research and University Lecturing Award in the United States) to develop research at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA) in the application of advanced multidimensional analytical techniques for the molecular characterization of the complex organic matrices from air particles. In January 2020, Regina Duarte started a position as Principal Researcher at Department of Chemistry & CESAM, UA. Here, Regina Duarte and her research team have been developing new research strategies aiming at integrate and expand the current scientific understanding of the structural features of natural organic matter and its interactions with contaminants of environmental interest, mainly in atmospheric and aquatic systems. Research interests: 1| Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, with emphasis in the application of advanced multidimensional analytical techniques (e.g., solid- and liquid-state NMR spectroscopy and two-dimensional liquid chromatography) for the characterization of complex organic matter, mainly from air particles (but also water and soil); 2| Development of mathematical tools for data processing in multidimensional analytical strategies applied to complex organic mixtures; 3| Structural and molecular composition of organic aerosols; 4| Atmospheric stressors; 5| Health effects of organic aerosols; 5| Wet and dry deposition of organic aerosols.
