Jorge Ramos is an Integrated Researcher in the Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-Being - CinTurs (former CIEO) - at the University of Algarve in Faro, Portugal (since February 2019). Before he was Research Associate in the Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics - CIEO - at the University of Algarve in Faro Portugal (Jun. 2016-Jan. 2019). He has worked as Independent Researcher to lead the socioeconomic impact of the Nazaré artificial reef for Polytechnic Institute of Leiria in Peniche, Portugal (2015-May 2016). As a Postgraduate Research socio-economist was involved in 3 Post-Doc fellowships at the Portuguese Institute for the Ocean and Atmosphere - IPMA in Olhão and Lisbon, Portugal (2008-2014). During the second Post-Doc fellowship he was a visiting researcher at LEI in The Hague, Netherlands (Oct. 2011); at Thünen Institute in Hamburg, Germany (Jan. 2012); at CNR-ISMAR in Ancona, Italy (Mar. 2012); at IMR in Bergen, Norway (Sep. 2012); and at CNR-ISMAR in Rome (Mar. 2013). As a PhD candidate developed practical and fieldwork socioeconomics research along the Algarve coast, with different stakeholders - e.g., commercial fisheries, angling clubs, dive operators -, at the Research Institute IPMA (former IPIMAR, INIAP) in Olhão, Portugal and the at the Research Centre for the Economics and Management of Aquatic Resources - CEMARE at the University of Portsmouth in Portsmouth, UK (2002-2007). As a Research Assistant in the field of fisheries biology working on common octopus and commercial fisheries discards in CCMAR at the University of Algarve in Faro, Portugal (1996-1999). As a final year Trainee Internship at the Torry Research Station in Aberdeen, UK (March-August 1995). He has been working on socioeconomics related to coastal issues, particularly small-scale fisheries, offshore aquaculture, eco-tourism, diving tourism, tourism operators, and traditional sea salt production. His research interests include social and economic aspects related to sustainable seafood, tourism, stakeholder analysis, artificial reefs, among other areas. Has authored and co-authored about 25 scientific peer-reviewed papers published in international journals (most in Q1 and Q2, according to SJR 2019). Has published, among other journals in Marine Policy, Fisheries Research, ICES Journal of Marine Science, Hydrobiologia, Ocean and Coastal Management, Bulletin of Marine Science, PeerJ. He is a reviewer in 11 international peer-reviewed journals (WOS), including e.g., Marine Policy, Journal of Environmental Policy and Planning, Fisheries Management and Ecology, Aquaculture, PeerJ, Sustainability, among others. He holds a PhD in Fisheries Economics and Management (Viva Voce in December 2007, awarded 2008), a PgC in Social Research Methods, an MSc in Fisheries Economics (all from the University of Portsmouth, UK) and a graduate degree in Marine Biology and Fisheries (University of Algarve, Portugal).
