M.C. Butuc graduated in 1993 in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnical University of Timisoara, Romania and received her doctor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Porto University, Portugal, on July 16, 2004. During 1999-2007, Dr. M.C. Butuc enjoyed a five-years PhD. scholarship and a three-years post-doctoral scholarship granted by FCT. Since 2007, Dr. Butuc has been a researcher at the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation, and since 2021, at LASI – the Intelligent Systems Associate Laboratory. Dr. Butuc is also member of the Scientific Committee of the European Scientific Association for Material Forming (ESAFORM). Her main work was dedicated to developing models for predicting the sheet metal forming limits under linear and complex loadings, by using the most advanced phenomenological and physically-based plasticity models. M.C. Butuc developed several original software packages for the prediction of Forming Limit Diagrams. The quality and broadness of these results allowed her to acquire a very good expertise in the field of material modeling and development of scientific software. She has published 50 papers, 23 in proceedings of international conferences and 27 in international peer review journals, getting more than 700 citations (SCOPUS) and the h-index 13 (SCOPUS). 29 of the 50 papers were published as principal and corresponding author. She participated as a member of scientific teams to 3 European research projects, namely on BRITE-EURAM, INCO-COPERNICUS EBRIC and Competitive and Sustainable Growth programmes and to 15 national research projects. She was the coordinator of one project (total funds: 237.809,36EUR) financed through the Portuguese Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization and the Foundation for Science and Technology, with the final Report approved with classification A. She is editor invited to the international journal Metals for the Special Issues on Challenges and Achievements in Sheet Metal Forming, 2021 and Advances in Metal Forming and Plasticity, 2025. Dr. Butuc was the organizer of 7 international mini-symposia, at RTME2016, ICPDF 2020, the 26th International Conference on Plasticity, Damage & Fracture, ESAFORM 2022, ESAFORM 2023, ESAFORM 2024 and ESAFORM 2025. She has been a member of the organizing committee of 3 international conferences, Numisheet 2016 , RTME2016 and ESAFORM 2022. She has been collaborating with prestigious foreign research laboratories, such as the LPMTM-CNRS, Univ. Paris Nord, France, RIKEN, Japan, GIFT POSTECH, Republic of Korea, CERTETA, Technical University of Cluj Napoca, Romania, Science et Ingénierie des Matériaux et des Procédés, Grenoble, France, ENSAM, France, as well as with outstanding foreign scientists who co-authored some of her publications. Dr. Butuc is acting as reviewer of the International Journal of Plasticity(since 2006), International Journal of Mechanical Sciences(since 2012), International Journal of Material Forming(since 2013), Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China(since 2019) and Mathematical Problems in Engineering (since 2022).
