Filipa Baptista got her BSc degree in Biology in 2006 at the University of Coimbra (UC). In 2012 she completed her PhD in Biosciences (specialization in Cell and Molecular Biology at UC) focused on studying impact of diabetes on the central nervous system, elucidating diabetes-induced neuronal changes in diabetic encephalopathy and retinopathy. In 2013, Filipa Baptista got a postdoctoral position at the Center for Cell Biology, University of Aveiro (UA), aiming to develop novel therapeutic strategies to tackle Alzheimer´s disease (AD). But at the end of 2013, after a successful application to FCT postdoctoral grants, she decided to return to UC to carry out her project in the field of Diabetes. Simultaneously, she was a team member of Mantero Belard awarded project, and explored the concept of "the retina as a window to the brain" in AD, clarifying whether the retina can be used as tool for early AD diagnosis, contributed both with her knowledge in vision sciences and expertise in behavioral analysis to the study. In December 2018, Filipa Baptista got her present Researcher position at the Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB) and is working on the field of Developmental programming, investigating how insults in critical periods of development underlie the emergence of disease later in life. Specifically, Filipa Baptista has been investigating the impact of maternal diabetes and prenatal stress on offspring brain investigating its putative long-term implications in cognitive impairment and psychiatric disorders. Filipa Baptista is also investigating putative sex differences in the clinical presentation of psychiatric disorders, opening new avenues for preventing neurodevelopmental changes or therapeutically intervene considering sex differences. Since 2019, FB is also an effective collaborator at Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT), a leading institution of the UC, specialized in molecular imaging in Neuroscience and translational research. According to Scopus database Filipa Baptista is the author/coauthor of 39 papers in international peer reviewed journals, originating 1065 citations and an h-index of 18. As an important component of dissemination of research outputs, Filipa Baptista participated in several national and international meetings being an author/coauthor of more than 100 presentations (of which 45 were oral presentations). The total funding gathered from pharmaceutical companies and research programs surpasses 100 000 Euros, as co-Principal Investigator. Filipa Baptista is presently involved on the COST Action (CA22114) "Maternal Perinatal Stress and Adverse Outcomes in the Offspring", and was recently awarded with the best Project award (as PI) by the Portuguese Society of Diabetology (2023 ) on the area of Nutritional Psychiatry. Filipa Baptista frequently engage in outreaching activities, namely Brain Awareness Week, European Researcher´s Night and in several activities for high school students. FB was a member of the organizing committee of a symposium on Microglial cells (2014), the V Symposium of the Portuguese Glial Network (2021), and member of the organizing committee of the 5th CIBB Neuroscience Retreat (2023). Additionally, FB is responsible for the coordination of the weekly institutional Seminars where national and international researchers and clinicians are invited to share their work. FB has been invited as lecturer in several postgraduate courses, as Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences, Master´s in Biomedical Research, Master´s in Molecular and Translational Neuroscience and Integrated Master's in Medicine. FB supervision and training experience is mirrored in 1 PhD thesis (ongoing), 12 Master thesis (1 ongoing) and 30 undergraduate training and lab rotations.
