M. D. Banea got her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, in 2011. She was a Post-PhD researcher at Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IDMEC), Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto from 2012 to 2015. During 2015-2022, she was a professor at CEFET/RJ - Federal Center of Technological Education in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. M.D Banea currently works at the Departamento de Engenharia de Materiais e Cerâmica, Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal. Her research is mainly about composite materials and adhesive bonding. M.D. Banea published approximately 134 research papers in International Scientific Journals and more than 180 papers in proceedings of international conferences. Her papers were cited 6559 times and correspond to an h-index of 44 (SCOPUS, 24/03/2024). One of her papers obtained the SAGE Best Paper Award 2010 and Donald Julius Groen Prize 2010 (both awards given by Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK). She received in 2013 the Award of Fundação Eng. António de Almeida for the best PhD thesis by Fundação Eng. António de Almeida. She is a member of editorial board of the following journals: Journal of Renewable Materials and International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives. She is a reviewer of more than 45 ISI journals. She is recognized by Stanford University's list of the world's Top 2% of the most-cited scientists in 2019-2022.
