Simão Santos is currently a PhD student in the Materials Science and Engineering doctoral programme at the University of Aveiro (UA). He holds a bachelor's (15/20) and a master's degree (18/20) in Materials Engineering, both from the UA. Simão was honoured with the Ludwig Van Beethoven prize, awarded to the best student in the UA Master's Degree in Materials Engineering in the 2022/2023 academic year. In addition, his master's thesis was awarded a 2nd honourable mention in the SPM prize, which honours the best master's theses in materials science and engineering in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic years. In 2024, Simão was awarded a competitive doctoral scholarship at the University of Aveiro, enabling him to begin his PhD research entitled “Bio-absorbable Mg–CaP 3D architected bone substitutes targeting design-driven osteointegration.” Since 2026, he has been a doctoral fellow funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). To date, he has authored six peer-reviewed journal publications (Scopus ID: 59177885100), delivered five oral presentations at international/national conferences, presented three posters at scientific events, and participated in several seminars, summer schools, and specialised workshops. Outside academia, Simão has been a federated mountain bike athlete for 15 years, winning several important titles throughout his sporting career.
