LUCIANA C. GOMES is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and a Senior Member of the Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE). She graduated in Bioengineering in the same institution as the best student of the 2006-2011 Integrated M.Sc. Bioengineering programme. She has been working in the Biofilm Engineering Laboratory (BEL) of LEPABE since 2008, first as an undergraduate student with an Integration into Research Grant (BII), then as a Master student, and finally, as a Ph.D. student working under the supervision of Dr. Filipe Mergulhão and funded by FCT. Luciana C. Gomes received her Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Porto at the end of 2016, having spent part of her research at the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB) of Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal) and the Bioadhesion, Biofilms and Hygiene of Material (B2HM) group of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA, France). She received a Postdoctoral Fellowship from LEPABE in 2017 to pursue the study of her doctoral topic (biofilms for synthesizing recombinant proteins and other value-added products) and ensure the continuity of studies on food biofilms at BEL. From 2019 until 2022, Luciana C. Gomes was a Contracted Researcher at LEPABE under the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus financed by FCT and an Invited Assistant Professor at FEUP. Her research interests include antibiofilm/antimicrobial surfaces for industrial and biomedical settings. She was a supervisor/co-supervisor of 4 Ph.D. students (1 finished and 3 ongoing), 7 master students (5 in academic and 2 in industrial environment), and 10 bachelor students. Throughout her scientific career, Luciana C. Gomes published 65 peer-reviewed papers mainly in Q1 and Q2 journals of the SCImago Journal Rank (19 as first author and 5 as corresponding author), and 6 book chapters, and participated in numerous international conferences and courses with the financial support of several funding agencies. She is a team member of the SurfSAFE project (Grant agreement ID: 952471), Co-PI of the nationally funded NanoCAT project (Using modified carbon nanotubes to prevent biofilm formation in urinary catheters and stents; ref. PTDC/CTM-COM/4844/2020), and PI of the nationally funded BacAllFree project (Controlling bacteria and allergen contamination in the food industry using biomimetic surfaces; ref. 2022.05314.PTDC and https://doi.org/10.54499/2022.05314.PTDC).
