Margarida Martins currently works at ALGAplus SA since 2022, as Innovation Coordinator, having the responsibility to manage the collaborative and internal projects, academic partnerships and research. Previously she worked at RAIZ, Forest and Paper Research Institute, part of The Navigator company, as a Research and Development Senior Technician after completion of her PhD in Chemical Engineering in 'Marine biorefinery: valorisation of algae into advanced products' in 2021. Previously, she was involved in the project 'Optimization and Scale-up of Novel Ionic-Liquid-based Purification Processes for Recombinant Green Fluorescent Protein produced by Escherichia coli' as research fellow, in CICECO, Aveiro Institute of Materials. She has done research Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering and Chemical Biology and has experience in the development of sustainable processes, such as extraction, purification, and characterization of biomolecules for specific applications, namely for recovery of high value molecules from low cost biomass, mainly based on algae, within a circular economy perspective, and in the management of R&D projects related to seaweed farming. Her work in these fields has resulted in 31 scientific manuscripts, 3 patents, and 7 management of collaborative projects related to seaweed cultivation.
