Carina Flávia Ribeiro Sá. Completed Master's degree in Microbiology by University of Aveiro on 2019/10/11 and the Bachelor's degree in Biology on 2017/07/10 by University of Aveiro. At the moment is a PhD student at the University of Aveiro, PhD Program in Biology, with the theme "Application of Microorganisms to enhance maize sustainability and tolerance to drought", funded by a grant of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT, Portugal). Is author/co-author of 13 articles, 4 as first author, and of 9 oral presentations and 8 conference posters. Participated in 18 events. Had a Master's fellow in the project BIOGEOCLIM. Her main areas of expertise are Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biomarkers of Stress. During the degree she attended the Research component of the degree program and also an internship (optional) with one year duration. The theme "Evaluation of the effects induced by drought stress in rhizobia" addressed in the Research component allowed the acquisition of laboratory skills in microbial culture methods, in determination of the activity of bacteria promoting plant growth and in biochemical analysis such as protein content, oxidative damage and antioxidant enzymes. In the Internship the theme "Análises microbiológicas, bioquímicas e de atividade enzimática em solos e fertilizantes" allowed the acquisition of experience in the microbiological analysis of fertilizers and soils and evaluation the activity of soil enzymes. Parallel to these analyzes, an experiment was carried out with bacteria in osmotic stress and biochemical analyzes were performed. In the Master's thesis with the theme "Exposure of Rhizobium to volatile organic compounds: Effects on cells exposed and non-exposed to cadmium", the importance that volatile compounds have in soil microorganisms was explored.
