I am an Assistant Researcher (CEEC 1st Edition-FCT) at CESAM-Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, Dep. of Biology, Univ. of Aveiro (UAveiro), PT. I graduated in Biology (2003), MSc in Ecology (2005) from University of Coimbra (PT) and PhD in Biology (Ecology) (2010), Univ. Lisbon, PT. I worked for 1 year in science management (IP) at Tech Transfer Office - Univ. Coimbra. In 2012, started as a Post-Doc researcher at CESAM-UAveiro and SDU-Southern Denmark Univ. (DK). From 2012-2018, I was awarded 2Post-Doc FCT grants, the latter ceased to start a competitive FCT-CEEC Assistant Researcher contract. My research career guiding thread has been coastal wetlands (CW) functioning/resilience against multiple threats, including climate change. Over my PhD I specialised in nitrogen & metals effects in saltmarsh dynamics and phytoremediation. My first Post-doc targeted seagrass resilience to climate and other changes, focusing on the impacts on EC (BC stock) and seagrass restoration (SDU,DK). In the 2nd Post-doc I targeted saltmarsh spatio-temporal changes (plant zonation shifts, nutrient dynamics, climate change effects). Since 2019, I focused on CW resilience and long-term spatio-temporal changes due to climate, natural/human-driven threats (e.g. non-indigenous species). I specialised in coastal wetlands (seagrass and salt marsh) restoration (PT,DK), conservation/management through a transdisciplinary approach to answer scientific/societal challenges (e.g.BioPradaRia project (MAR2020/EMFF) which I was coordinator). Currently, I am coordinating at UAveiro the projects REWRITE (Horizon Europe), which focuses on the REWilding and Restoration of Intertidal Sediment Ecosystems for Carbon Sequestration, Climate Adaptation and Biodiversity Support (DOI:10.3030/101081357), and the Project CAPTA - Climate Neutrality: Blue Carbon role in the coast of Portugal and Galicia (Interreg VI-A España-Portugal (POCTEP)). I am also a team member of the recent funded projects LifeSeagrassRiaWild (LIFE+; and WP Leader)), RESTORE4Cs, A-AAgora (both Horizon Europe). I worked as a Post-Doc at SDU (DK) (2014) and did an internship at Univ. Maryland (USA) (2009). Participated in International scientific workshops/networks (e.g. TeaCompositionH2O, iSBio Consortium (SoilTeaBag) as UAveiro site coordinator). I am part of networks performing long-term research/monitoring (LTER-PT&Europe), contributing to worldwide databases. I have participated in over 25 R&D Inter/national projects (3 as PI, 2 international as PI at UAveiro; and others as team member) focused on wetland ecology and conservation, biodiversity and coastal management. In 2020-2022, I was a Seagrass Bioregional Co-Leader of IUCN SSS Group & Red List Authority; Review Editor - Frontiers in Marine Science (Marine Ecosystem Ecology); Topic Editor (2022-present). I have supported management as invited participant by ICNF (2022/23) and data sharing with national administration (ICNF,DGRM). Participated in outreach activities as organizer /invited speaker; TV documentaries and interviews for national/regional newspapers. Regarding academia, I am a lecturer at UAveiro (Wetlands Ecology - BSc level) since 2021. I have been (co-)supervising students and research fellows at UAveiro & Univ. Algarve (2 Post-docs, 1PhD student, 6MSc and 7BSc), internships of 2 PhD students (from DK). Since 2003 (BSc), I have (co)authored 37 ISI papers; 7 book chapters; 1 book; 2 technical reports. I have published with international teams (>600 co-authors, several institutions and countries) and contributed to >60 presentations at international/national conferences. I have achieved an h-index=18, w-index=6, with a total of 1500 citations (Scopus).
